14-year-old shot, killed in Marion County, deputies say
MARION COUNTY, Fla. - A 14-year-old boy was found dead Wednesday night in Marion County after reports of a shooting, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the Marion Oaks subdivision in the 15000 block of SW 48th Avenue on Wednesday night and found the boy dead, MCSO said. The boy was identified as Marshaun Jones.
Lt. Paul Bloom of Marion County Sheriff's Office said detectives are investigating the boy's death as a homicide and are in the process of interviewing possible witnesses and neighbors.
"It's always tragic when we hear about a juvenile, 14-year-old, a life so young and taken out so early in life," Lt. Bloom added. "I'm sure the school today, that's a big ripple going through the school he attended and a lot of folks It's on their mind."
Residents said it's devastating news for a typically quiet neighborhood.
"Nobody really bothers nobody around this neighborhood, so you wouldn't expect nothing like that to happen round," said Brandon Smith.
