Arrest warrant obtained for Trump assassination attempt suspect

Attorney General Ashley Moody obtained an arrest warrant for attempted felony murder against Ryan Routh, the would-be assassin of President Donald J. Trump, for a hit-and-run that severely injured a six-year-old girl.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Attorney General Ashley Moody obtained an arrest warrant for attempted felony murder against Ryan Routh, the would-be assassin of President Donald J. Trump, for a hit-and-run that severely injured a 6-year-old girl.

The accident happened after Routh was found by the U.S. Secret Service and fled Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course by car.

During the apprehension and arrest of Routh, the car accident occurred leaving the child with serious injuries.

Gov. Ron DeSantis will sign an executive order to assign the Office of Statewide Prosecutor in Florida to investigate the apparent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, he announced during a news conference in West Palm Beach on Tuesday morning.

"My heart breaks for the child and her family, and while we continue to seek justice for President Trump, we will fight just as hard to ensure Mr. Routh pays for the tragedy his criminal actions brought on this Florida family.", Attorney General Ashley Moody said during a press conference Wednesday.

The charge of Attempted Felony Murder that Routh now faces carries a sentence of up to life in prison.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about the arrest warrant and the ongoing battle between the federal investigation being done by the FBI and the state investigation into the assassination attempt of Donald Trump, "The federal government has stonewalled Florida’s investigation of the Trump assassination attempt at every turn, and I appreciate Attorney General Ashley Moody and her team for plowing forward despite such resistance." DeSantis said, "The tide will turn on January 20th and we fully expect that the federal roadblocks will be removed. The would-be assassin needs to face the full force of justice, and the people deserve the truth about the defendant’s history, motivations and plan."
