Blue Man Group's Orlando grand opening delayed. Here's why.

The Blue Man Group's triumphant return to Orlando was supposed to happen in April, but FOX 35 has learned that the grand opening at ICON Park has been delayed – though, hopefully not for too long.

Blue Man Group at ICON Park

What we know:

The Blue Man Group was a staple at Universal Orlando's CityWalk for years before the show closed in 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, it was announced that a 500-seat, 11,000-square-foot theater would be built at ICON Park, marking the off-broadway show's return to Orlando.

Construction began in September 2024 with an anticipated grand opening for April 2025. Tickets are already on sale, though show dates have been moved to early May 2025, according to the website.

What they're saying:

"Blue Man Group is thrilled to be returning to Orlando at ICON Park. The group's new home will be the bald, blue trio's first ever theater built from the ground up. Unfortunately, that comes with occasional challenges. We continue to work hard to make progress, and we can't wait to bring Orlando all the surprising, fun and iconic moments you have come to expect from Blue Man Group" - Spokesperson for Blue Man Group

What we don't know:

The spokesperson for Blue Man Group was unable to provide details on what caused the delays or provide an update on a potential grand opening timeframe.

A spokesperson for Orange County told FOX 35 that the project was approved in December 2024, and that it has received permits for site work on the property. However, the vertical construction permit for the theater remains under review.

This is not uncommon. It takes several steps, applications, reviews, and permit applications to build a new building or structure.

What is The Blue Man Group? How much are tickets? How do I buy tickets?

"Blue Man Group will rock your world. Blow your mind. And unleash your spirit," reads the show's website. "As three bald and blue men explore your world, together we'll discover music, laughter, and surprises at every turn."

The theater at ICON Park will be the first-ever custom-built theater for the show, officials said. It will house more than 500 seats, according to permits.

Tickets range between $62 and $107, plus taxes and fees. Visit www.blueman.com for more information.

ICON Park is located between International Drive and University Blvd., near State Route 482. It is home to several attractions and restaurants, including The Orlando Eye Ferris Wheel, Madame Tussauds Orlando, Sea Life Aquarium, and the Orlando SlingShot.
