GAINESVILLE, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Gainesville Police Department is excited to announce that they are welcoming two new K9 teams into the department.
The teams are:
- Officer Ed Ratliff and K9 Ace, an 18 month old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois Mix
- Officer Josh Meurer and K9 Ranger, an 18 month old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois Mix
The teams were funded by local partners Each dog costs upwards of $8,000 each. The handlers and new dogs then go through a 400-hour training course before they are certified by FDLE to work as a patrol K9 team.
