What we know:

Around 5:40 a.m., police say an employee of the Winter Park Racquet Club flagged down an officer after witnessing a truck veer off Via Tuscany and into a nearby body of water.

Responding officers entered the water and found the driver, who appeared disoriented and unable to escape the sinking vehicle. Firefighters used tools to break the truck’s window, and together with the police and the good Samaritan, they pulled the man to safety.

The driver, believed to have suffered a medical emergency, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

What we don't know:

It is unclear what led up to the moments before the crash, and it remains unknown if the driver was hospitalized on the evening of the crash.

What they're saying:

Officials praised the good Samaritan’s actions, noting his quick response provided critical time for the rescue. Temperatures were in the low 40s during the incident.

"We are grateful for the efforts of everyone involved in saving this man’s life," police said.
