"She didn't do anything to anyone. She was a hard-working mother," family members told FOX 35's Caroline Coles. The family had gone to dinner hours earlier and dropped her off. Not long after, they received a phone call about a possible shooting.

"I just want to raise awareness to people out there, ya know, celebrating, ya know, don't shoot guns. They don't know what family they can hurt."

Police said they believe the deadly shot was part of celebratory gunfire, which is illegal.

In Miami, a 10-year-old girl died after she was struck by a bullet shortly after midnight, also suspected of being from someone shooting into the air to celebrate the new year.
