Sabatini draws Florida House challenger
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (NSF) - State Rep. Anthony Sabatini, R-Howey-in-the-Hills, has drawn as challenger as he seeks a second term in the Florida House.
Clermont Democrat Ryan Morales opened a campaign account this week to challenge Sabatini in 2020 in Lake County’s House District 32, according to the state Division of Elections website.
Also this week, Democrat Anna Hochkammer, a member of the Pinecrest Village Council, opened an account to run in Senate District 39, which is made of Monroe County and part of Miami-Dade County.
The seat will be open next year because Sen. Anitere Flores, R-Miami, faces term limits. Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, a Miami Republican, planned to run for the seat before getting tapped last year as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ running mate. Nevertheless, Nunez still has an open campaign account in the Senate district, according to the Division of Elections website.
Also in South Florida, Pembroke Park Democrat Ashira Mohammed became the fourth Democrat to open an account this week to run to succeed term-limited Rep. Shevrin Jones, D-West Park, in Broward County’s House District 101. Mohammed joined Democrats Jonathan Gilbert Flores, Brian Johnson and Marie Woodson.
