Suspect in custody after fleeing from Ocala police officers
OCALA, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A suspect is in custody after fleeing from Ocala police officers on Wednesday morning.
The Ocala Police Department says that one of their officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Gaiteway Plaza on Wednesday morning. The driver fled from the officer and collided with another patrol vehicle in the process.
They say that a passenger in the suspect's vehicle, a white Dodge Challenger, attempted to exit the car and was hit by the driver. He was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
While fleeing from police on Wednesday morning, deputies say that the fleeing suspect hit a fire hydrant in the area of SW 10th Street and SW 27th Avenue. He abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.
College Park Elementary was placed on lockdown as a precaution while police searched for the suspect. He was soon found and later identified as 22-year-old Johnathan Holmes.
Holmes was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and resisting arrest without violence. Additional charges are pending.
