Woman covered license plate after hit-and-run, deputies say
A woman is facing charges for allegedly running over a teenager who was on a scooter in Deltona. Instead of staying to help, deputies say she covered up her license plate and drove off but they could still track her down.
DELTONA, Fla. - A driver was arrested on Thursday for striking a student who was crossing the road in Deltona and driving off, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Sarah Wright, 37, of Palm Coast, is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving with a suspended license.
Officials said the crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Gage Avenue and Noah Street.

The 16-year-old boy was riding his scooter home from Pine Ridge High School and was crossing the street in the crosswalk when a black Chevrolet Silverado hit him, deputies said.

The boy fell to the ground, causing a serious laceration to the back of his head and an arm injury, but was alert and conscious after the incident.
A woman was checking her mailbox nearby when she heard the crash, according to an arrest affidavit.
She told investigators that the suspect, later identified as Wright, got out of the pickup truck after the collision and checked on the teen, authorities said. Wright then reportedly went back to her vehicle, and covered her license plate with paper and tape.
The witness, however, was able to capture the first character of her tag. A neighborhood Ring camera also captured the truck leaving the area.
The teen and the witness were also able to provide a detailed description of the driver.

With that information, authorities were able to locate Wright's truck on a nearby license plate reader camera within minutes, deputies said.
Wright was found in Flagler County on Thursday night and taken into custody with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol and the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
She was booked into the Flagler County jail on a $3,500 bond.
The teen is expected to make a full recovery.
