Age to get COVID-19 shot in Florida drops on Monday

Florida will be lowering the age to get a coronavirus vaccine to 60-and-up on Monday, March 15. Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday said that age limit could soon drop to 55 and then the general public below age 55 would be able to get a shot. The governor was not specific about a timeline beyond Monday.

Vaccinations to begin for those 60 and older

After focusing for more than two months on vaccinating seniors against COVID-19, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday the state will authorize giving shots to people ages 60 and older. The change will take effect March 15.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has just released its first guidelines on when fully vaccinated, people can resume normal life that includes mask wearing social distancing, even visiting grandchildren.

Sanford Civic Center offers flexible vaccine hours

Seminole County is offering more flexible hours at one of its vaccination sites. The Sanford Civic Center will be open to administer the vaccine to those eligible through Thursday. Hours are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Vaccine appointments available in Orange County

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings on Monday announced that more people would be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Demings said that the county has a strong inventory of the vaccine, but not enough people looking to get the shot.

FEMA site adds Johnson & Johnson vaccine

The Federal Emergency Management Agency coronavirus vaccine site at Valencia College's West Campus is now adding the Johnson and Johnson shot to the mix. The federal site has also expanded eligibility to include educators of all ages. The Orange County Convention Center is also now offering all educators the vaccine.

The Florida Department of Health is working on a form that would take the place of a doctor's note. The issue is the form is not ready. If you fall into the new category and have an appointment to be vaccinated, you're good to go. If you're signing up for an appointment now, you'll need a doctor's note explaining your condition until that form is released.

Orlando Police Chief Rolon among those vaccinated on Tuesday

Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon was among law enforcement officers who received a coronavirus vaccine dose on Tuesday. Rolon says about half the department's still unsure about getting the vaccine, so he wanted to set an example and encourage others to get the vaccine. Over 100 Orlando police officers have contracted COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
