Cat show coming to Daytona Beach this weekend
Florida's biggest cat show will be held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach this weekend. Hundreds of cats of dozens of different cat breeds will compete for Best in Show in 10 judging rings. There's also a cat costume contest, adoptable cats and agility contests at the event.
No new dogs at shelter amid virus outbreak
Orange County Animal Services is not accepting any new dogs because of a contagious canine virus outbreak. While the virus is contagious among dogs, it's not contagious for humans or cats. The shelter is still open for adoptions.

Xander, a comfort K9 at Lawton Chiles Middle School recently placed 2nd for the Aftermath K9 grant, awarded in June. Xander and his handler SRO Ashley Pierce were in a competition against K9s across the country to win this grant. The grant helps to maintain the comfort K9 program for the police department. A stray dog found in Brevard County, Florida is on the road to recovery after a six-pound mass was removed from her hind leg. Jasmine, an 8-year-old mixed breed dog, was found walking around Brevard County by a good Samaritan and brought to the SPCA of Brevard County, according to Shelby Montgomery, who handled public relations and communication relations for the shelter.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium dolphin dies
The staff at Clearwater Marine Aquarium is grieving the loss of another dolphin. Four-year-old Apollo died Monday, CMA said, after fighting gastrointestinal discomfort since March. He’s the fifth dolphin to die at the aquarium in the last 19 months and the third just this year.

Owl on mend after rescue from storm shutter
An owl is on the mend after getting stuck in a storm shutter in Miami Gardens, and rescuing the bird out of there was no easy task. It took several minutes to free the owl with the homeowner's help. They placed the bird in a kennel and took it to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station in Miami. The owl is now being treated for a broken foot.
