Apopka man arrested in cold case, unsolved for 33 years

St. Cloud police have arrested 72-year-old Gene Stuller in connection to the 1991 murder of Julia Sue Wilbanks, solving a cold case that remained unsolved for 33 years. DNA advancements led investigators to identify Stuller as a suspect earlier this year. St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke joins FOX 35 to talk about the arrest.

1 arrested after hours-long stand-off in Apopka

The Apopka Police Department said they responded to a reference of a domestic disturbance around 7 a.m. on Saturday in the area of the Breckenridge subdivision. After an hours-long stand-off, officials said they arrested 39-year-old Joseph Rivera. Authorities said Rivera is facing charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a firearm, and further charges are currently under review.

Convicted killer wrongly freed from jail captured in Florida

Kathan Guzman, the convicted killer who was mistakenly released from a Georgia prison, was captured in Florida on Friday. He was located by U.S. Marshals Service at his mother's house, the U.S. Marshals Service and Clayton County District Attorney's Office told FOX 35. Officials say he was released due to a paperwork error. Guzman was expected to appear in court on Saturday morning.

Iris Guzman, the mother of Kathan Guzman, a convicted murderer who was mistakenly released from a Georgia jail two weeks ago, told FOX 35's Matt Trezza that his son was not a fugitive and was not hiding from law enforcement. She said she went to pick him up, even called the sheriff's office to make sure her son, who was sentenced to life in prison, was being released. She said she drove to Georgia, picked her son up, and brought him to her house in Ocoee, Florida. He was located by the U.S. Marshals Service at his mother's house, officials confirmed to FOX 5 Atlanta. No other details were immediately released.
