New downtown Orlando safety changes start today

The City of Orlando is hoping to get rid of the so-called "street-party atmosphere" downtown, following two mass shootings in two years. Safety changes were enacted in 2022 after several people were hurt in a shooting. On Nov. 1, 2024, 2 people were killed, and eight others hurt in a shooting as thousands were celebrating Halloween. Beginning Friday, Nov. 15, Orange Avenue will begin to reopen to vehicle traffic. Before, it would be shut down, allowing people to walk along the street from bar to bar.
