Child left in day care bus for nearly 5 hours, authorities say

A 5-year-old boy was left inside a day care passenger bus for nearly five hours, a spokesperson with the Orange County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 35.  An individual walking through the parking lot near Winner's Preschool and Child Care, at 609 N. Powers Dr., noticed the child in 12-seater bus and called 911.

Deputies determined the child had been left on the bus from 8:20 a.m. until after 1 p.m.  Some of the vans' windows were slightly rolled down.  The child was checked out by Orange County Fire Rescue and was found to be in good condition and returned to his parents.

"Child abuse investigators will be filing neglect charges against the bus driver and two of the day care workers  who failed to take the child from the bus when it arrived at the day care facility this morning," said Jane Watrell with the Sheriff's Office.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified and is in charge of day care licensing.
