A Black single mother during the Jim Crow and post-segregation eras, Carroll supported her seven children by painting at night and selling her landscapes by day, often traveling Florida’s highways. She faced adversity head-on, breaking racial and gender barriers to blaze a new path.

Today, the FOX 35 Care Force is recognizing Nate Camacho, who is the head lifeguard at the Winter Park Raquet Club. He was the good Samaritan who rushed to help and call 911 when an 80-year-old man drove into the retention pond in front of the club on a cold January morning.

Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell has announced her intent to run for mayor in 2026. Russell is a former District 6 County Commissioner, the county's first Black Clerk of Courts and the youngest member of the County Commission when she was first elected.

The Town of Eatonville has received a massive grant to help pay for two infrastructure projects. The historic town will receive $34.4 million. Officials said the town will use some of the money to update its drinking water.

A woman from Orlando says she went down to South Florida for a cosmetic procedure, but the doctor who performed the surgery turn out to be a fake. In addition to practicing without a license, the man is charged with domestic battery, battery on an elderly person and resisting arrest without violence.

FOX 35 Investigates after a local school employee was arrested for sexual abuse of a child, and the alleged victim reached out to us about the arrest. A man who works at the Orlando Torah Academy was arrested on Monday in Chicago and charged with criminal sexual abuse of a person under the age of 17. Today, the school told staff the employee has been removed from his post for now.

Lamar Bryant is being charged with premediated murder after being accused of killing his wife, Takeshia, after she filed for divorce. A judge recently denied bond for Bryant.

New body camera video shows the moments leading up to two deadly Central Florida shootings involving law enforcement. The first is from last month in Orange County, where deputies opened fire on a man holding a knife. The second is from earlier this month when police responded to reports of a suspicious person on East Colonial Drive. Officials said they were forced to open fire in both cases, as the suspects were seen holding weapons.

The Orlando Police Department says homicides and shootings are down to start 2025. When compared to last year, police say homicides are down 67%, while shootings are down 89%.
